Oblivion trailer released
Wed, 18 May 2005 20:46:47 +0000

by Paul
Put aside your poor quality shaky-cam videos, Bethesda have now released the trailer for download, weighing in at 84MB for the high quality version, or 15MB for the lower quality version. Get them on Bethesda's media page. For those having issues with downloading it from Bethesda's site (it does seem to be hammered) we've got a torrent link up for you.

I love E3!
Tue, 17 May 2005 09:20:54 +0000

Gamespot. has posted new Oblivion Q&A - Oblivion at E3 2005. Producer Todd Howard gives us the latest details on Oblivion, from what's being shown at E3 to the improvements in the game.

GameSpot: Could you give us an update on Oblivion's progress? What's on display at E3?
Todd Howard: We're in the final phases of development. Most of the content is in the game, and we're trying to polish it all up. We'll show off all the major features of the game behind closed doors at E3. It's a hard game to boil down to a short demo, but I think we've got something people will enjoy and hopefully come away with a good idea of what we're tying to accomplish.

Winter 2005 on PC and Xbox 360
Tue, 17 May 2005 09:01:05 +0000

by BadCRC
ROCKVILLE, Md., May 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Bethesda Softworks and 2K Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: TTWO - News) today announced that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion(TM), the highly anticipated and definitive next-generation role playing game, will be available on the Xbox 360(TM) video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. Oblivion, the long awaited fourth installment in the award-winning Elder Scrolls series, will make its public debut at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles on May 18. With revolutionary technology powered by Xbox 360 and Bethesda's powerful development engine and groundbreaking Radiant AI(TM) system, Oblivion provides gamers with the most life-like gaming experience to date. The powerful combination of unprecedented graphics and freeform game play allows gamers to unravel the main quest or explore the vast world at their own pace.

"Oblivion is by far one of the most graphically captivating games ever made, but the technology powering this game is doing so much more than just making it look good," said Todd Howard, executive producer for Oblivion. "The Xbox 360 gives us the freedom to build a game that is not only visually unsurpassed, but also completely customizable to the player's desire. Technology has finally caught up to our vision of creating a fully immersive fantasy world that looks as amazing as it is fun to play."

Played from a first or third person perspective, Oblivion opens with the mysterious death of the Emperor of Tamriel, tasking the gamer with finding the lost heir to the throne while combating the demons loosed from the gates of Oblivion, or hell. Pioneering technology makes Oblivion's combat more bloody and visceral, as the gamer navigates his way through lifelike towns, dungeons, and the most realistic forests ever created. Oblivion has already received a wealth of pre-launch attention, and has been recognized as one of this year's most highly-anticipated games.

"The team at Bethesda has pushed the RPG genre forward exponentially with Oblivion and it makes for a stunning example of what the next generation Xbox is capable of," said Christoph Hartmann, Managing Director for 2K Games. "The power of this new technology coupled with the talented developers at Bethesda, ensure that the Xbox 360 release from 2K Games and Bethesda Softworks will undoubtedly be an unforgettable gaming experience."

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has not yet been rated by the ESRB and is slated to ship for PC and Xbox 360 in winter 2005. For more information on Oblivion and the Elder Scrolls series, please visit the official web site at www.elderscrolls.com.

New E3 Team Diary
Fri, 13 May 2005 23:13:41 +0000

by Wester
A new dev team diary has been posted over at the official Elder Scrolls website by Peter Hines; Vice President of PR and Marketing of Bethesda Softworks regarding the E3 Oblivion demo to be shown in HD very soon now. Here's a little larger than typical slice from it:
"So we've spent months talking about what the demo would include, and weeks and weeks working diligently at it. What parts of the game to show, what happens in those areas, different kinds of combat, magic, stealth, dialogue, our Radiant AI…everything. Most of that ends up being Todd's call. He figures out what parts of the game look the best, and work together, and tell the story of what this game is about and what lets you do.

So we've got amazing forests, killer dark dungeons, and grand cities. We show interiors and exteriors, dialog, quests, fast travel, and more. We show them the new combat system, a taste of stealth gameplay, some of our magic system…you get the idea (and I'll bet it makes you salivate, eh?) It's a great cross-section of the game in about 25 minutes."

As the complete diary is a nice read, check it out.

Looking for news posters

Excuse the off-topic nature of this post. However we're in need of a few good hands at keeping our Xbox 2 site up and running smoothly, with the announcement of the new platform just weeks away now things are going into overdrive hype wise, and we won't be able to manage when that happens. If you want to help us out please send me an e-mail.

Actually on that topic we could do with a few spare hands around here too.
